Enter Hershey’s Kisses Share Sweet Moments of Family Fun Promotion

I won the “Coolest Mom of the Year” award a few weeks ago when I took them down to New York City for a night of playing games and eating Hershey®’s Kisses® Chocolates. My daughters and I played a game of Twister with a new “twist” – whenever someone landed on red, they got a Hershey®’s Kisses® Chocolate. We also got to check out one of Hasbro’s newest Family Game Night game, RATUKI, which is quickly becoming a family favorite.

The event was to kick off the Hershey’s Kisses Share Sweet Moments of Family Fun instant-win promotion. Hershey’s has partnered with Hasbro and is giving families the chance to win thousands of prizes including a $10,000 family-room makeover. Now through June 15, 2011, consumers can visit to enter the online sweepstakes where they are eligible to instantly win prizes. Upon entry, participants receive a “CONGRATULATIONS! You are a WINNER” or “SORRY! You have not won a prize” message. Each time an entrant plays, they will receive one entry into the Grand Prize drawing with one lucky player receiving a variety of Hasbro games and $10,000, which may be used towards a family-room makeover. In addition, 360 winners will receive the first prize of a Hasbro Family Game Night game, 360 second prize winners will receive a Hasbro Family Game Night card game, and 1,440 third prize winners will receive a coupon good for one free 12 oz. bag of Hershey’s Kisses Brand Milk Chocolates.

While online, visitors also have the chance to play an exclusive online version of RATUKI. Players build piles of cards from “1” to “5” with the goal of being the first to slam a “5” on the top of the deck, shout “RATUKI!” and be awarded all the cards.

Around The Table Games are basic fun that help promote family bonding

It’s hard enough to get your ‘tween to talk to you at times but try getting to know three step kids! Sure, there’s the polite conversation, but how do I really get to know them?

Enter Family Talk, one of the Around The Table Games created by Beth Daniels. Family Talk is a series of small cards attached on a ring that ask questions designed to help family members get to know each other better. Questions range from the serious such as “Currently what is your favorite family tradition and why?” to the silly “If everyone in your family became dogs what kind of dog would they be and why?” Not only did these cards help me get to know my step kids better but it was a great way to pass some time on our recent 18 hour drive to Florida!

There are several games including Grandparent Talk, a great way for kids to get to know their grandparents better, as well as Buddy Talk, Camp Talk and Teen Talk. And, with the price starting at $7.99, it’s certainly more affordable than any video game out there!

Around the Table games can be purchased at Bed Bath and Beyond, Cracker Barrel and and many specialty retailers nationwide. For more information and to find a store near you please visit

We all hear about how bacteria and germs can make us sick and we’re constantly preaching good hand washing but did you know that most bacteria won’t hurt you at all? In fact, there are trillions of bacteria in our bodies that work hard to keep us healthy.

Did you also know that there are about 2,000 species of bacteria and that they are among the oldest living creatures on Earth?

These are just two of the interesting facts your kids will read about in That’s Awesome! The World’s Most Amazing Facts & Records, a new book from Time Home Entertainment and the editors of Time For Kids.

Most kids love astounding their parents with weird facts and trivia about the world around us. If you have a child in your life like that than this is the holiday present for them! Available at Amazon, this is a book that will keep them occupied for hours!

My Family and I “Kicked-Off” The Holiday Season At The Radio City Christmas Spectacular by Alison Rhodes, The Safety Mom

Last week the kids and I (along with Grandma!) went into New York City to take part in the Christmas in August event at Radio City Music Hall, home to the Radio City Christmas Spectacular and the amazing Rockettes! Not only was this the “kick-off” for the 2010 holiday season for the show but it also was the beginning of the “Kick Across America” campaign which is supporting the Garden of Dreams Foundation.

This was the first trip for my kids to Radio City Music Hall and to have it decked out for Christmas made it even more special … and the “decorate your own cupcake” compliments of Magnolia Bakery was a big hit as well!

I told my daughter Kelsey that she could be my “assistant blogger” for this assignment so she took some notes during our backstage tour and an “interview” with one of the Rockettes. Here were her facts:

The Christmas Spectacular started in 1933
They have live animals in the show!
The backdrops weigh 1,800 lbs
The Rockettes didn’t start at Radio City, they actually started in St. Louis
The Rockette I met has been dancing with the Rockettes for six years
She was very pretty and had big bracelets

I love seeing what Kelsey took away from the day. Hannah decided she now wants to be a Rockette for Halloween and the best part of the day for Spencer was the cupcakes!

After the tour of the Music Hall we went outside to watch the Rockettes kick it up with a very special guest – Santa Claus! Santa invited everyone to come out and kick as well but my kids wanted no part of that (I can’t believe they get stage fright with me as their mother!) They even had “snow” coming down from the rooftop which definitely put all of us in the holiday spirit.

I remember how special it was going into New York to see the Christmas Spectacular when I was a little girl. I can’t wait to share that with my kids this year.

And Radio City wants to help other kids experience this magical event as well. Once 1,000,000 “kicks” are reached, Radio City Music Hall will donate thousands of tickets through the Garden Of Dreams Foundation to kids who might otherwise not have an opportunity to see the Christmas Spectacular. You can help out by visiting and “kicking” on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube or texting a kick.

The Miracle Worker On Broadway – A “Must See” For All Families! By Alison Rhodes, The Safety Mom

I had the opportunity to see The Miracle Worker this past Friday night on Broadway. I’ve always loved the story of Helen Keller and Abigail Breslin, the actress who played Helen, was superb! As a mother of a special needs child, it was particularly touching. Helen’s mother’s determination to find the best care for her coupled with her protection of Helen struck a familiar chord in me and there were several times I felt myself tearing up. I recently blogged about the R-word campaign and the importance for everyone to be more sensitive to people with disabilities. This is a great story for kids to see and a lesson to learn – the ability for a child to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles. There was a Girl Scout troupe sitting in front of us who was enthralled. There’s something about a live performance that makes it all the more impactful.

And, in March, there are some terrific discounts! There’s not a bad seat in the house and every Tuesday night, the performers are available to chat about the show after the performance. For a full performance schedule and further info go to and mention code MWTC1216 to purchase three tickets for $150 ($50 per ticket).
